This home in Maplewood, Minnesota, was in need of a complete exterior renovation. The original home was stucco on the sides and part of the back, with aluminum siding on the front. The homeowner had recently replaced the windows on the home, and the trim was improperly installed. Our first job was to install new fiber cement trim around the windows. We ensured that windows had the proper flashing tape on the sill, and integrated our building paper and flashing tape to ensure there would be no way for water to enter the walls. We also installed a frieze board at the bottom of the soffit to provide an attractive detail.

On the west side of the home, we removed the stucco in the gable in order to install the trim and a faux vent to give this side of the home a different look than the opposite side. We patched the stucco around the new windows and under the new frieze board. We installed a flashing at the bottom of the stucco, which protects the new stone from any water getting behind it. We also installed galvanized lath and our base coats to all of the areas where the stone was installed:

Maplewood, MN, New Stucco with faux vent

On the lake side of the home, we installed new fiber cement trim to the window bays. We continued the frieze board on this side of the home, and needed to repair the stucco in many places. We framed in an old service door, and installed stucco to this area and the surrounding foundation. On the chimney side, we installed the trim and frieze board, and patched the stucco around these areas:

Rear of stucco and trim project in Maplewood, MN

When all of the trim and stucco repairs were completed, we applied a two-coat stucco finish to the entire home. The homeowner wanted to change the texture, so we applies a trowel texture the is more smooth than the previous texture. We used a color that blended with the new trim, and enhanced the natural stone. This complete exterior renovation gives this stucco home an updated look that will require minimal maintenance. The homeowner loves the new look of their home, and will enjoy this lakeside home for many, many years.

The homeowners of this St. Paul, Minnesota, home had recently purchased the home from a relative. The stucco on the home was in rough shape, having been painted and many areas that needed to be repaired. We first sandblasted the existing stucco in order to remve the paint. Next, we needed to remove some patches of stucco that had been repaired previously, which were done improperly. There were also many areas that needed to be repaired in order to prepare the existing stucco for the new finish coat.

The homeowner wanted to match a color that she had seen on a different home. We made several samples for her, and she chose the one that she liked the best. We applied a knockdown dash texture to the entire home. The homeowners loved the final result, which transformed this old stucco house into the best-looking home on their block.

We then applied a gray brushcoat to the foundation, to maintain the original appearance of the home. The homeowners will enjoy their new exterior for a long, long time!

The owners of this south Minneapolis home purchased the home several years ago. This year, they decided that they wanted to update the exterior of the home. The stucco had been painted by the previous owners, and the previous owners had also “repaired” the stucco on the chimney by installing a foam-based acrylic stucco product. In reality, they were hiding the real problems with the chimney…which were discovered while we were trying to repair the chimney the correct way.

We sandblasted the existing stucco in order to remove the paint. There were a few areas of the stucco that needed to be repairs on the home, but we knew the main repairs were going to be on the chimney. After we removed the foam that was on the lower portion of the chimney, it became evident that there was significant damage to the stucco on the chimney. Once we removed some of the loose stucco above the roofline, it was clear that the stucco wasn’t the only thing that was damage…the masonry inside the chimney was deteriorated beyond the point of repair. It was necessary to tear down the entire chimney, and rebuild it so that it was structurally safe and sound.

The chimney was rebuilt using concrete blocks, with natural stone accents. We installed new galvanized metal lath to the block, and then applied the base coats. Once the base coats on the chimney had cured, we applied a two-coat finish to the entire home. The project was a little more involved than the homeowners originally anticipated, but now can enjoy their beautiful new chimney and stucco for decades!

This home in Northeast Minneapolis had been previously painted. The homeowner also operates a daycare out of the home, so we sandblasted the home over a weekend while there were no children present. We needed to repair some areas of stucco, and some of the prema-stone on the front and base of the home. We applied a new stucco finish to the entire home, and applied a brush coat to the stone areas on the base. The result was a beautiful new finish that the homeowners and families from the daycare will appreciate for a very long time!

On this south Minneapolis bungalow just east of Lake Nokomis, we first needed to sandblast the existing stucco in order to remove paint. We needed to be very careful when sandblasting, as the aluminum trim on the home was brand new, due to improvements made by the Metropolitan Airports Commission. We patched several areas where the stucco was cracked, and where windows had been replaced. We worked closely with the homeowner to help him decide on a color for the refinished stucco, and he decided on a classic color that will look beautiful for many decades.
